Drink the Rio Grande
Presented by City of Albuquerque, Public Works/Water Resources
How will Albuquerque purify the muddy waters of the Rio Grande for drinking?
Students and their teacher experiment with filtration of dirty water to learn what might work.

Why Does the River Run Brown

Presented by New Mexico Environment Department, Surface Water Quality Bureau
What happens if soil and pesticides run off farms or oil runs off a parking lot?
If these substances run off into the river, they cause water pollution.
Students can demonstrate how this non point source pollution occurs with the watershed model.

Water Olympics
Presented by Albuquerque Academy Environment Club
How many drops of water can a penny hold? Students put water to the test!
Though a series of experiments they demonstrate that water is no ordinary liquid!

Is There Water on Zork?
Presented by Jean Arya
The leader of the Zorkians offers several clear liquids for space explorer students to test.
Which one is really water?

Cottonwood Forest
Presented by Bosque School
Everyone loves the cottonwood forest that grows along the Rio Grande
but how healthy are those beautiful old trees? Bosque School students show the 4th graders how to
measure leaf litter to learn how the forest is doing.

Meet Water Bugs Up Close
Presented by New Mexico Game & Fish Department
Meet this macroinvertebrate up close! Students learn that some water bugs can only live in very clean water
while others can live in polluted water. Which is which?

Who's Got the Water?

Our limited water must be shared among many users - farmers, nature, cities & towns, and downstream users.
Evaporation takes a share, too. Students negotiate water sharing agreements when it’s a dry year
and discover what might happen if they cannot agree!

Swimming in the Rio Grande

Presented by US Forest Service
New Mexico’s state fish, the Rio Grande Cutthroat Trout, faces challenges to its survival.
In this game, students learn about those challenges as they move their fish around the game board,
encountering obstacles as they go.
